USB-MIDI on the AXIS 64

We would love C Thru to finish updating firmware on the AXIS 64 to allow for USB-MIDI :).

Out of curiosity, does the engineering team believe that implementing USB-MIDI on the current AXIS 64 platform is definitely doable via firmware alone? I'm wondering if there's a possibility that USB-MIDI implementation will require any new hardware - and thus may need to be implemented on a yet-unreleased product, or new version of the AXIS 64.

If the engineers say this will require merely firmware changes, then I will be at ease :).

is this something that the engineering team is still working on - i.e., they're not sure yet?

We have had a number of people suggesting the need for USB over MIDI on the AXiS-64 - we think it is a good idea and will get our technicians to look into it for the future - at the moment, we don't know if it is a hardware or firmware change.

Presumably this was implemented in another piece of hardware rather than on the 64 - as in the axis 49? I would hope a mid range product might emerge since the 64 and the 49 combined address most user requests including USB MIDI, but are pretty limited on their own.

Right now the 64 needs USB MIDI, bus powerability (and aftertouch,) and the 49 needs additional performance controls, programability and the ability to select output MIDI channel.

Oh and both need to be priced more reasonably!

I will probably not purchase an AXIS 64 until it includes at very least USB midi and bus powered operation. The device is simply too expensive to be lacking these ubiquitous and essential keyboard features.

Now, I said "probably not," but if I must wait a very long time I will adjust to the technical limitations of the keyboard and dive into a 64. I absolutely love the harmonic table interface (I have an 49). I just hope that c-thru-music keeps these issues in mind as they continue their technical development. Resolving such technical issues can make a fantastic instrument even more of a joy to use and will only help the company sell more to curious but skeptical musicians.

Hi all.
What I'd really like to see is a way to easily put a thumb control or motion sensor on the Axis-49 or -64 units. That would be very, very cool indeed. In other words, I like one of these: http://thumtronics.com/

I've hooked up an Korg Nanopad to my computer and diverted the pad signal into a pitch-bend and sound-mod effect on my Axis-49, but I crave a more pretty and compact solution. e.g. a smaller, higher resolution pad, or an Wi-stick's signal converted to midi. I know how to make the Axis-49 wireless - there's a midi USB-to-Bluetooth/midi connector you can get from Starr labs.

A mobile, pitch-bending and wah-wah-ing Axis would be very impressive - instant entry into some of my friends' bands.

If anyone is able to do a little googling and report back, that would be great.
